Wasted Years

"It is easy to start taking drugs, but it is very difficult to quit.
Believe me I know it well. Your life will never be the same again. Please don't try it even one time. Don't ruin all your future by experimenting with drugs like me." - Gor, Ex-drug addict

A WASTED LIFE

In 2009, he was 65 years old. Ordinarily, he should be celebrating life with his wife, children and grandchildren. He should have been an executive contemplating a life of ease after retirement. Unfortunately, he was on Olowu Street in Ikeja. He has been living on the streets for the past 40 years.
He became a drug addict at the age of 25.
He does not remember his home town and whatever name he gives you is probably not his real name. He traded a wonderful life for destruction through drug abuse.

A TURN AROUND

James N. is another case. He started selling hard drugs in 1991 in Monrovia and later got involved in taking it. As he became an addict, he lost his wife and children; from Liberia he ended up living under the bridge in Mile 2, in Lagos. His addiction drove him into crime and he became a frustrated human being. He was contemplating committing suicide when he was rehabilitated and delivered.

LOST YEARS

Bolaji T. is 58 years old. He started smoking in the secondary school. In 1999, he advanced into hard drugs for 9 years with the expected repercussions.
Even though he is now delivered, he has lost 9 years of his life that he cannot account for.

A TEENAGER GOT HOOKED

How did Gor, a 16 year old teenager get involved with drugs?
"I first started it just for fun. My friends were doing it at my house so I wanted to try too. But, then, I quickly became addicted."
Shortly after becoming an addict, Gor discovered, "I am not in control. The drugs control me. I can't stop."

HOW DO PEOPLE GET INTO DRUG ADDICTION?

In nearly all the cases of drug addiction, the starting point has been through friends and associations. It is rare for someone to go into the market on his own to buy hard drugs. People get into the drug habit through friends, classmates, relatives, neighbours, or colleagues.
According to Gor, "You can get drugs easily. Just tell someone who takes drugs and they will get it for you."
Drug addiction usually starts with peer pressure. Your friends are doing it, you do not wish to be the odd one out, so you join them.

HOW TO AVOID DRUG ADDICTION

The first step is to avoid associating with anyone that is either smoking or consuming alcohol. As innocent and common as alcohol seems, it is actually the worst drug in the market. Once you avoid someone smoking or consuming alcohol, you are free from drug addiction.
Never make friends with anyone using drugs.

WHAT IF I AM ALREADY ADDICTED?

As many drug addicts have discovered, drug addiction is not physical. There is a spirit behind drug addiction and permanent deliverance is only possible through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Many addicts struggling to escape the addiction have discovered that they relapse after a few months. A force greater than themselves seems to suck them back into the habit. They hate what they are doing, but they seem powerless to stop.
Again and again, many drug addicts have experienced lasting deliverance and freedom through Jesus Christ. If you are caught in the grip of this destructive habit, now is the time to confess and in repentance come to Jesus Christ for deliverance. It is written, "if the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." Jn 8: 36
