Based on request, we seek to clarify as follows:
Christian Social Movement of Nigeria (CSMN) is the SOCIO-POLITICAL arm of the Nigerian Church. It was established and registered at CAC in September 2001 by the FIVE CHURCH GROUPS of the Nigerian Church to coordinate and manage the interest of Christianity on Social and Political issues in the country. It was inaugurated by Prelate Sunday Mbang as the CAN President, ably represented by the then Vice President of CAN, Cardinal Onaiyekan.
The Preamble of the Constitution of CSMN states inter alia, “…Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) with one of its main objectives – “that they may be one” has encouraged and approved the formation of the Christian Social Movement of Nigeria …”
CSMN is the authorized Christian body to speak for the Nigerian Church on politics and social issues. Please refer to the Constitution and Declaration of Policies of CSMN at http://csmnigeria.org/csmn/constitution

MEMBERSHIP
In principle, each Nigerian Christian is a member of CSMN. However, participation is at each individual’s discretion.
Holding offices in CSMN is opened to both Laity and Clergy. Christian professionals are welcome to participate in CSMN in order to apply their skills to build the kingdom of God in Nigeria.
AREAS OF PARTICIPATION
POLITICS & GOVERNANCE: Christians with flair for politics and calling for Governance are invited to participate in CSMN in order to mobilize and organize Christians for effective participation in providing Godly leadership for Nigeria.
LEGAL: Christians in the legal profession are welcome to participate in view of the ideological conflicts plaguing Nigeria. These issues require legal resolution.
DATA & RECORDS: Christians with flair or skill in data gathering as well as keeping records are required to monitor and records current events. If care is not taken, in a few years from now, some people would deny that religious insurgency ever took place in Nigeria.
MEDIA: To prevent distortion of narrative as well as ensure that factual information is disseminated, Christians in the media are invited to participate in CSMN.
HUMANITARIAN SERVICES: Christians with passion for persecuted and vulnerable Christians are required to coordinate reaching out to needy Christians. This area requires a lot of attention in view of the overwhelming number of Christians in the IDP camps.
YOUTHS: For Christianity to survive, the next generation must be raised to be grounded in the faith. CSMN is particular about reaching Christian youths and mobilizing them into true disciples as well as making them politically literate. Christian professionals with calling to reach youths are invited to participate in CSMN.
EMPOWERMENT: CSMN supports a well articulated program of empowering Christians to be self sufficient. It is written, “… study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.” 1 Thes. 4: 11 & 12
Christian professionals are invited to participate and offer their expertise, as God has given each individual grace, to build the kingdom of God in Nigeria. Government shall be upon His shoulder.
FUNDING
According to the Declaration of Policies of CSMN, ( http://csmnigeria.org/csmn/declaration-of-policies ) individual Christians are expected to contribute N500 monthly to the Christian Movement for its activities. As outlined above, funding would be critical to the achievement of the goal and objectives of CSMN.
