MARATHON PRAYERS

THE SEASON HAS CHANGED
Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert (Isaiah 43:18-19).
The world is not static. The Bible explains it thus in Ecc. 7:14: "In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him." For everyone, there is usually a day of joy and a day when things go wrong. The one in happiness was not entirely responsible for their day of prosperity, even though many might assume that they are. Neither is the man in adversity entirely responsible for their "day ". The Bible says God made it, to prevent man from predicting his end, to enable him to fear God all his days. This calls for wisdom, because some behave unwisely in the day of their success and attribute their good fortune to their cleverness. " A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven." (John 3:27).
God has set the world in seasons. In the temperate regions of the world, there are the four seasons of winter, spring, summer, and autumn. In the tropics, there are the rainy, dry, and harmattan seasons. No amount of prayer and fasting can stop summer from transiting to autumn, or prevent winter from following it. It is the cycle of life, as God decreed it in Gen. 8:22: "While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease." This is true in nature as in the life of individuals and nations. Seasons change. No one experiences joy all the days of their life. The rich also cry. No nation remains in peace throughout its existence. For every nation, there comes a time of tears and tension, as well as a time of joy and pleasure.
Many years ago, God predicted that Nigeria would go through specific seasons. In April 1986, Pastor Elton prophesied that Nigeria would go through a season of corruption in which the country would stink all over the world. That would be the winter for Nigeria. That same prophecy stated that the tide would change and Nigeria would enter another season of righteousness. As surely as Nigeria has experienced the season of corruption, it shall certainly experience the season of righteousness. No politician can prevent it.
There was another prophecy in 2010 in which God prophesied that Nigeria would go through a seven-year season of judgment. That season started in 2011. At its expiration in 2018, God set an examination for the Nigeria Church, His agent in the land. The Church failed the examination, and the season of judgment was extended. It was in the same 2010 prophecy that God said Nigeria would experience a “season of death” in which people would die massively due to the hardness of heart of Nigerians. The massive plague of death ravaging the land is the consequence of God’s indignation. God described Nigerians in that prophecy thus, “Your nation and the leaders are hard-hearted, and your people are obstinate and hypocritical.”
Because the land was under God's indignation, it was inevitable that wicked and ungodly men would rise into prominence in the land. It is part of the divine indignation that men without compassion for the suffering of their citizens would wreak havoc on Nigeria. They were the physical manifestation of God's outpouring of wrath upon the land. Even though God uses the wicked to express His indignation, He will still punish them for all the evil that they do. One clear indication that God is going to execute judgment on the evil rulers and their supporters can be discerned in their mass migration into a single boat. They call it defection, but heaven calls it rejection. They do not realise that it is God putting all of them into a single vessel for the day of reckoning. There are interesting days ahead.
The Bible in Ecc. 3:1-8 sums it up well: _"There is a time for everything": a time for indignation, and a time of restoration. Nigeria will not be an exception.
When indignation against Nigeria was to reach its climax, a president arose in the United States and influenced the imposition of wicked rulers upon the country. He even contributed his political strategist to come to Nigeria and ensure that a party that would inflict sorrow and blood upon the country “won” an election. He succeeded because it was the season of indignation. Now that the tide is changing, another president has arisen in United States, determined to drive out the “Prince of Persia”. Suddenly, unsolicited voices from America are rising in defence of Nigeria, condemning the atrocities committed by the same party a former president of America helped into power. Is this a contradiction from the US? No, it is the change of seasons. Because Nigeria must transit from indignation to restoration, the government of the United States becomes agitated about Nigeria. The US Presidency, the Senate, and the Congress are all burdened with what is going on in Nigeria. One might wonder, why would it be the US, of all nations, to express such concern about Nigeria? It's because, as the US was used to facilitate the indignation, God has purposed to use the same US to resolve it.
Now, the season is changing. The signs are everywhere and those who have eyes to see are beginning to breathe a sigh of relief. Each new season comes with its own signals. When spring is coming to replace winter, fresh buds appear on trees. The weather would still be freezing cold, but the buds will appear, signalling that winter is over. When summer is coming to replace spring, daylight stays longer than darkness and warmth in the atmosphere begins to replace the chilling cold of winter and spring.
In Nigeria, the signals are emerging that the Most High is turning the times around for the country. Even though the wicked and ungodly men who afflicted the land in the season of judgment are still in the corridors of power, their season is over. If the land were not under God’s indignation, there was no way those wicked entities who ruled Nigeria in the past few years could ever have come near the throne of the country. Historians would have a field day documenting for posterity the atrocities that were committed under these leaders. They were the instruments of God’s indignation against the country. John Calvin wrote: “When God wants to judge a nation, He gives them wicked rulers”.
Of course, those instruments of wrath have thought that they are smart and strategic. They have manifested the pride of King Sennacherib of Assyria who boasted, "I have digged and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged places" (2 Kg. 19:24). God rebuked him thus, "Hast thou not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps … Because thy rage against me and thy tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest" (2 Kg. 19:25,28). Like Sennacherib, these ungodly leaders in the season of indignation attributed the success of their wicked schemes to their ability, so they have started scheming to replicate it in 2027.
Unfortunately, they assume that 2027 will be the same as 2023. They have amassed more money than they spent in 2023 to compromise the process of election. They forget that “money fails” (Gen. 47:15). It is written, " Riches profit not in the day of wrath" (Prov. 11:4). The ungodly leaders did not realize that it was neither their money nor their scheming that gave them the throne of Nigeria, but the indignation of God against the land. If God were not angry with the land, they would have had no chance of coming near the throne. They are instruments of wrath meant to inflict divine punishment on the people of the land. Once God decides to have mercy on the land, the instruments of wrath are no longer needed. Unfortunately, they have not realized that the season has changed, they are still fighting tooth and nail to remain in office. Nigeria has transited from divine indignation to divine restoration. There is a new season in the atmosphere.
While we have the assurance that the era of evil men in power is giving way for the era of the righteous, this is not time to fold the arms and go to sleep. Ushering in the season of restoration also comes with its responsibilities. There is work to be done.
First, intercession must be sustained for the land, that the mercy of God shall prevail over judgment in Nigeria. This is the time for watchers on the wall to redouble efforts in prayers and intercession. Daniel was heard the moment he started to pray for the restoration of Judah from captivity, yet the angel assigned to bring his answer did not arrive until twenty-one days later.
Second, the means of birthing a righteous government in the country, as visible to humanity, is the next election in 2027. God might have other means, which He has not revealed. Therefore, Christian leaders must commence mobilization of their congregants to register and participate in the forthcoming elections. Their people must be encouraged not to give up.
Third, there should be a return to Godly family values. Globally, the generation described as Gen Z is manifesting disquieting character traits. There is nothing wrong with those children. They are the result of dysfunctional parenting in a world that gradually ignores Godly values. If Nigeria is to sustain the season of righteousness, children must be trained in righteousness and in the fear of God.
Fourth, Christians must begin to interrogate those Church leaders who openly fraternize with a political party or structure guilty of shedding the blood of the saints. Undoubtedly, it is not the Holy Spirit leading those pastors into such a party.
Finally, there should be consistent thanksgiving to God for bringing the desolation of Nigeria to an end. At this point, we can begin to proclaim to Nigeria, “Arise, shine, for your light has come.” (Is. 60:1). God bless Nigeria.
